Florida

I’m currently in Florida. I haven’t been here since 2006, when I flew in for a few days to get my mom and bring her back to our home for a week.

I’ve been visiting with my mom, my Aunt, my cousins and my brother and his family. Also my best friend! It’s so weird to be back here, seeing everyone. There are ghosts everywhere.

We arrived on Saturday evening. The flight was okay, but, there were kids right across the aisle from us. The kids were okay at first, but, as the flight went on, it went downhill quickly. We have a Toyota Corolla as our car this week. It’s small and after driving a Jeep for a few years, you realize how low cars actually sit!

Sunday we saw my mom, my Aunt and my cousins. One of my cousins I haven’t seen since I was a little kid. I didn’t really get a chance to visit with him, he was out the door to do something a short time after we arrived. We had a good visit with everyone. That night we met my brother, his wife and my niece for dinner. My nephew was working, but, we met his girlfriend! It’s nice to have had some time with them. Hopefully we’ll be getting together on Friday night for some Wii!

Monday we took my mom and my Aunt out to lunch – Red Lobster. We had a good visit and then we all went back to my Aunt’s house. She’s living in my grandparent’s house. It’s there were some of the ghosts arrived. Looking through photo albums, seeing myself and my grandparents together, where it hit me the hardest. There’s this awesome photo of my grandfather with a camera around his neck and he’s not even looking at the camera. I’m going to take photos of some of the photos the next time we are over there. I tried to explain scanning in the photos, but, she doesn’t even have a printer, so, that’s a challenge right from the beginning. I know that there are companies here in the area that will scan and archive/print photos, maybe I can point her in that direction.

Yesterday we went to Wal-mart and I found some shorts! The seasons are changing in the stores right now, hopefully there will be some shorts on the racks when I get home. I bought some flops at Target the other day and I found a few things on sale at Loft and at Stein Mart.

We also went to see my BFFOUCDP yesterday for lunch! I haven’t seen her in person since 2007, when we went to NYC for a long weekend. It was great to see her. She wanted me to take some business photos for her website and cards. The country club she took us to is gorgeous! It looks like an Italian village. Tons of photo opportunities! Hubby took some photos of her and I together and she took some of he and I.

Today we are off to see my mom and to get some house things checked off of her list. Tonight we are meeting my BFFOUCDP and her family for dinner!

It’s Spring!

I changed the blog layout as it’s now Spring. It doesn’t feel like it yet, though. It’s not even 50° F at 9:30 a.m. I hope that the weather is nice for my youngest daughter’s birthday on Wednesday. She will be 21. I cannot believe it. She’s not a drinker and says that she will be ordering a drink, but won’t drink it. I don’t know if I believe her or not! I did tell her to call if she does drink more than one drink, as she’s never drank at all and is slender, she will be pretty buzzed! :heartbeat:

Today we’re going to the movies with the littlest member of our family. We’re taking her to see “How to Train Your Dragon”. Even hubby is going, which is a BIG deal. He and I go see movies together, we don’t really see little kiddo movies in the theater any longer. I’m glad he’s going, he loves her to pieces, which is why I think he is going.

The fireplace in the family room is nearly completed. We just have to tile the surround and the upper molding space. I hope to do that this Spring sometime. We took the mirror down a few weekends ago and have been painting it since then. Hubby just finished the trim painting yesterday and it looks great.

I’ve been booking appointments for senior photos and starting next week I pretty much work every Saturday for the next 3 months! Which is great.

Blogging

I cannot believe that I’ve been using WordPress for nearly 7 years! I started blogging February 17, 2001, 9 years ago. I used Blogger for a few months, then moved to Grey Matter, Moveable Type, b2, then WP. I was on LJ for a couple of years and had my blog protected for a while. I’ve moved so many times to different domains, but, some people just keep reading and I’m glad. I actually looked up my user name’s profile on WordPress.org: simplysara – Member Since April 20, 2003 (6 years)

I really miss the interaction that we used to have before MySpace/Twitter/Facebook came around. Don’t get me wrong, I really like those things, although I’m on FB more than MySpace, it’s dead, isn’t it? And I try to post on Twitter when I can.

Cell phones definitely changed the way we live our daily lives. I have lived 80% or so of my life without a cell phone. I now carry one with me every day for business and personal use. I post on Twitter, FB and sometimes here using my phone.

Mike was one of the first people I met while using Cafe Log’s – b2. He’s been helping Matt for years develop WP and everything that we love about it. Back in the day there was a lot of coding going on!! I also think that for users, WP is the best it’s ever been!

I learned how to code HTML raw on my own, back in 1999 or maybe even earlier. I still have the book, HTML III I think it was. After learning HTML. I started to try to do changes with Grey Matter and Moveable Type, but, with b2, it became clear that I could figure it out and make something do what I wanted. I created themes for my blog, first through tables, then through .CSS. I started to break away from the usual layouts. I really liked the one I did with 2 sidebars on one side. I will have to bring that back one day. I played with graphics, .CSS, broke my blog numerous times and asked for help. I learned while I was doing it. I can now physically install WP in 5 minutes on a domain. I have a business site totally run with WP. Some people think that it’s set up like a blog throughout the site. So what, that’s the easiest for people to read and it’s working as my business is growing, isn’t it?!? I have a client viewable only blog for previews of photos as I like that WP can protect posts. That’s why it works for me. It’s flexible and bends to my commands! *LOL*

Thank you for reading for the past 9 years. I cannot believe it’s been that long. I started blogging to vent about family members and I ended up loving it and sharing my life. I have 9 years worth of archives on a DVD or two. I used to blog about everything, now, not really. I try to blog monthly, sometimes it’s weekly, sometimes more often. :heartlove:
