January 2010

I think that Facebook is killing bloggers. I’m always over there typing and never here.

We have ordered furniture! It will be here February 4th and I cannot wait. The room is dark green, Chives by Olympic in Lowe’s if you are really that interested! We have ugly carpet, but we’re going to re-do the floors one of these days. Anyhow, the furniture is a cinnamon color, which will look great with the walls. We are not afraid of color!

I’ve been going to church each Sunday. This past week I attended a membership class after church. I met a few new people that sit near me, but we’ve never talked.  I will be joining the church next weekend. I’ve been going there since July 2009 and I really like the service. The people are great, very welcoming. I’ve become closer to God and I’ve been doing the New Testament challenge along with a lot of the church. I read a chapter each weekday in the NT. I’ve been reading ahead, love the Book.

I’m taking our tax stuff + the business stuff, to an accountant tomorrow. It’s way too complicated for me to do with the house, business and some other things. Anyhow, I don’t mind paying if it’s done right! Less that I have to worry about.

TTFN!

Moved

Hey, so I’ve moved my blog to the root directory. Maybe now I will blog more often. I have made all the archives only available to me to read. I may go through them one day and change them to public, I’m not sure.

Things here have been busy, but good!

My birthday was fun! My hubby bought me the Pandora cupcake for my necklace and a colored (red) bead for my bracelet. The oldest gave me some awesome Bath and Body Works Sweet Pea stuff. It’s my favorite scent! She stopped by on my birthday on her way to see her boyfriend.

We ordered a new washer and dryer that arrived right after my birthday. I’m so glad we bought these. They are front loaders, which I wasn’t sure if I wanted them or not, but I love them. :heartlove: We bought the Kenmore Elites. The base had the prices for the ones that they didn’t have in stock, so we were upgraded for the price, which was great. They are white, have white pedestals and I love the drawer space! No more kicking and moving baskets around in the laundry room!

His surgery went well. He’s back at work and last Monday was the first time that he’s exercised since before the surgery. They didn’t want his blood pressure to go up, so no running at all, or any working out. He goes back for another follow up in a few weeks.

I’ve been trying to keep busy with the photo business. I just did a few headshots on the 6th. I had reserved two Friday’s for this, but, there wasn’t enough people signed up, so I’m rescheduling it for January. One of my local photo buddies has a studio that I can rent out for this, so that will save some dollars! I’m setting up initial appointments to meet the uprising high school seniors this month, for February. Then, the sessions will be in March.

I’m seriously considering going to Guatemala on a Missions trip with some of the people in my church. The information meeting is the 22nd of this month. It’s a week in March that I would be gone, I have until January to decide and put down the deposit. I did have some of my questions answered, like for housing and food. I do have a passport and I’ve never used it. It will not be the first time that I’ve seen poverty, we saw it back on a port stop with a cruise we did as a family. And I have seen in here in the USA as well. I think that the thing I’m most worried about is bringing something disease wise home. I also have a big heart for children and seeing anyone suffering especially children makes me cry. So, there’s that too. I think that I will be okay after the first day and I think that will not only change the way I see things in my life and world, but it will change me inside, forever. They need people to just play with the kids and some other things. I’ve never done anything like this before.

Hubby and I went to the outlet stores this past Saturday. We are almost complete with our Christmas shopping. I just have a few things to buy for him and he for me and something for the little girlie and we’re done.

October

Wow, it’s been nearly a month since my last post!

  • My mom was here and the visit was 99% better than I thought it would be.
  • I’ve been working and when I’m not, hey, at least I’m having fun!
  • The little girlie is potty training, which is HUGE news in our household!
  • Hubby has surgery on the 23rd for his snoring (deviated septum) and for polyps in his passages. Hopefully this will bring back his sense of smell!
  • I’ve been going to the gym when I can and I’ve pulled out the 30 day shred again. I haven’t done the shred since this past summer.

My birthday is Friday! Sunday is church and a banquet that night.

Hope everyone is well! I have been reading, but, since my mom just left, I haven’t really had any time to comment, I’m sorry! I will try to do that this week if I can.

Update

Wow, it’s been a while since I wrote something here. I’ve been so incredibly busy.

We have been so blessed by a friend’s daughter. She is filling in the time gap between the time I leave in the evening and the time that hubby gets home from work. The youngest is taking night classes again this semester, so, usually I’m here, but, once or twice a month we need someone. It’s money well spent as the little girlie really loves her and she’s a sweet girl. She’s a client too, I did her senior portraits this past summer!

I had a family portrait session at the beginning of September. It went really well. I’m getting used to little boys and all the energy they have. The boys are 4 years old and 1 1/2 years old. Cute as can be. I have the photos, just waiting for the client to look at them so I can post them online to share.

I also presented to two BNI members that have uprising seniors next year. I think they will both purchase sessions. I also talked to a few people at the past few mixers that have high school students. I’m laying the groundwork for next years sessions now.

My mom is coming to visit next month. This is a good thing. We are getting along a lot better now than we did 3 years ago. I haven’t seen her since 2006 and she’s never met the little girlie at all. She will be here at the beginning of the month for a week.

I’ve been getting really involved with the Chamber of Commerce. I’m on my first non-military committee. There’s an annual event here that I’m helping organize and getting some insight and contributing ideas to. I also plan on helping out with another committee for an event in the Spring. We’ll see what the time commitment is. I try to do things in the morning, so I at least see hubby at night. It’s really weird doing things that aren’t military related. Good, but weird.

Last weekend found me on a bus with 7 of my friends and 20 others. We left early, early Friday morning and arrived in Ohio sometime mid-morning. I  made my first Longaberger basket! I also received another basket on the bus along with an wrought iron napkin holder. I bought two retired baskets. They are hanging on our wall in the hallway. One is for hubby to put his keys, sunglasses, phone and other work stuff in and one is for all the receipts and paperwork that always seem to accumulate on our island. I am hosting a catalog party next month, let me know if you want to buy anything. I hope to get an organizer basket for the kitchen, so we have a place for paper and pens. It was a good trip, but really tiring. We spent the day on Friday shopping, eating and then slept in the hotel that night. Saturday morning we went to a few places, then shopped in the mid-morning to early afternoon. Then back on the bus. We stopped at the site of Flight 93 on the way home. I’m really glad we stopped. I will post those photos on my personal and the photography Flickr this week. They are haunting. There’s not really memorial there, yet, but there are plans to add one. There were benches with the names of each of the victims that died in that crash. It just is sad that after 8 years, nothing really has been done. People have brought stone memorials and put them there, there is a 20-30 foot fence with tons of things on it, I have photos of that. People have left things as they visit the site. There are flags and a huge cross. It’s just a tragedy to me that the ones that fought back, are really the last ones to get any sort of memorial.

Hubby dropped me off at the spa yesterday, I had my hair cut and my eyebrows done. Also had a manicure. I haven’t been there since July, which is way too long for my hair to go without a cut. Then we went out to eat. It was nice.

Tomorrow at church I’ve been asked to take some photos. That wasn’t unexpected, but it kind of was.

I will try to post more often. I hope someone is still reading!

Church

I’ve been visiting a church for the past few weeks. I really like how it’s very contemporary and has a lot of music. I went to a church women’s dinner meeting tonight at Panera. It was nice to just sit and chat with some gals. I really don’t have anyone to hang out with during the day, I hang with hubby in the evenings, so this will be nice once a month. The church is Protestant, I’ve been going to Methodist churches our whole marriage, so this is a change for me. Hubby doesn’t want to go with me, but, I think that he will help out with the church workday on Saturday. I hope he will anyway. I look forward to getting more involved as time goes on. I think that there are a lot of different places that offer worship with this church, different services. I like the service I go to and I really don’t see myself changing any time soon. The sermon always applies to me in one way or another, which is a good thing. It’s starting to feel like home in our new town.
