About
My name is Sara. I was born on October 16, a Friday, in 1964, the year of the Dragon. That’s where this blog URL came from. I’m a Southern Gal, raised in Orlando, Florida. I pretty much grew up tan and in bare feet. I’ve been to Walt Disney World too many times to count. I am short with long hair. I love to read and take photos of family, friends, places and objects. I also scrapbook, watch movies, play video games, darts, shoot pool, play board and card games with my family. I sometimes ride on the back of a motorcycle, we own two of those.
I live in southern Maryland about 30 minutes from Washington, D.C., with my hubby. We met and married in Orlando, Florida on July 15, 1984. He retired from the U.S. NAVY after 25 years of service, January 31, 2008. We have two daughters. One is 24 and one is 20. The oldest lives in Maryland and works as an asst. buyer for men’s accessories with a very well known men’s store. She has a degree in Fashion Merchandising. The youngest lives with us along with her daughter. She is currently enrolled at our local community college and is pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice. I love being a nana! She’s a good girlie and I love seeing her face every day and playing with her when I can. I watch her while her mom goes to class in the evenings. It’s great to have nana/little girlie time.
I love to travel! We went to Las Vegas in May 2009 as part of our 25th anniversary celebration. We thought it was going to be cooler, but, we chose to stay the hottest week on record in May. Goodie.
I’m currently working as a photographer in the Maryland area. I’ve been working with senior portraits and family sessions.
For my personal and professional photos, I currently use one of two Nikon D200’s. I use a Nikon 60mm, Nikon 35mm, Nikon 18-70mm , Nikon 85mm or a Nikon 55-200mm. I also have a Nikon SB-600 and a SB-800 Speedlight Flash. I use my Domke F2 bag in olive green so much, I bought a second one recently, in black.
I like to scrapbook, take photos, turn something ugly into something pretty and useful. I’ve been scrapbooking one way or another since I was about 8. I remember putting photos in my journal/diary when I would write an entry.
The things I use every time I work in my scrap room or go to a crop:
* Making Memories 12 x 12 paper cutter
* Canon Selphy Printer
* Canon PIXMA MP450 Printer or MP620 Printer
* Nikon point -n- shoot
* Nikon D200
* Ribbon, buttons, brads, eyelets, stamps, chalk, stickers
* Creative Memories Tape Runner
* Yummy patterned paper and cardstock
I am now using Creative Memories true 12 x 12 scrapbooks for our memories.
I’ve been a bank teller, a truck garage office manager, and a web host. But, for most of my married life a stay at home mom. I’ve volunteered with the Girl Scouts, church, military groups and I was an Ombudsman.
I drive a 2008 Jeep Patriot. I’m lucky enough to have a brand new Jeep. His named is Buddy and I purchased him on August 31, 2007. He had 6 miles on him when I took him for a test drive.
I’m a Vegan. I have been a Vegan since January 16, 2010. I was a Vegetarian sometimes in 2009 and decided to go Vegan when things really started to upset my stomach. I live with people that aren’t Vegans or Vegetarians. It doesn’t bother me in the least to make food for them, as long as I don’t have to eat it!
I go to the grocery store at least twice a week. I use B. Happy Bags and I have these which I love:
Twist of irony fact about me: I stopped smoking on October 13, 1983 and I have a strong allergy to cigarette smoke now.
